Girl Power Songs for Your Feminist Playlist

Looking for feminist songs? Check out these girl power songs for your perfect feminist playlist!

You can’t convey passion without a drawn out “YESSS!” Those extra s’s are important. Critical even. That’s how I feel when I listen to my girl power playlist. This feminist playlist is awesome for any woman who wants to get into her fierce girl power mood. What is it about music that can take us to another place? It can inspire us to greater heights and truly push us to conquer the world. I don’t know how it works psychologically, but I do know that this playlist will leave me with a sore throat long before I reach the end. So, without further ado, I present to you my

Top 10 girl power playlist songs!

1.Girl on Fire – Alicia Keys

This song cannot be any more fierce and neither can this woman! Alicia Keys’ vocals and lyrical content is just stunning. My throat is sore before she gets to the first chorus. A. Keys reminds me to keep pursuing my dreams. In fact, it’s not just a reminder – it’s encouragement.

“Oh, she got both feet on the ground

And she’s burning it down

Oh, she got her head in the clouds

And she’s not backing down”

2. Who Run the World – Beyonce

If you ever want to empower yourself and break out dancing, this is the song to do it too! “Boy this beat is crazy” and the lyrics make me want to rally up all the women in my neighborhood and have a flash mob in the middle of the street (there’s an idea). I know people would probably expect one of Beyonce’s many female anthems to be number one, but there’s a specific reason A. Keys placed higher. Don’t get me wrong – Beyonce is a beast! But Alicia Keys embodies a different kind of women that acknowledges the flaws in society’s definition of the perfect woman. Love the Queen B, but her image is also too commercial and unattainable for me.

This goes out to all the women getting it in

Get on your grind

To the other men that respect what I do

Please accept my shine

3. Perfect – Pink

Pink is a warrior! There’s no other way to put it. This song is beautiful, emotional, and inspirational all while she unleashes bits of anger. This song could be any woman’s story. We’ve all be down at one point or another and have had to fight to get back up. We’ve had to reinforce that belief that we deserve more. Feeling down? Listen to this song, Pink will pick you up.

Always second guessing

Look I’m still around

Pretty, pretty please

Don’t you ever, ever feel

Like you’re less than

Less than perfect

4. Can’t Hold Us Down – Christina Aguilera

Oh, this is my girl, y’all! You just can’t beat her voice sometimes. It’s so BIG and unexpected. She has the capability to take you to that deeper place and that’s what this song does for me – it makes me want to fight. Women are too often expected to sit and look pretty. Then when you look pretty nobody expects anything worthwhile to come out of your mouth. This song is for those women who are always underestimated.

This is for my girls all around the world

Who’ve come across a man who don’t respect your worth

Thinking all women should be seen, not heard

So what do we do girls?

Shout out loud!

5. Man, I Feel Like a Woman – Shania Twain

Yes, that switch up just happened. Great music doesn’t exist in any one genre and this Shania Twain song is IT. Forget being politically correct, forget the restrictions imposed on females, forget it all! Sometimes you just have to get out and dance.

No inhibitions-make no conditions

Get a little outta line

I ain’t gonna act politically correct

I only wanna have a good time

The best thing about being a woman

Is the prerogative to have a little fun

6. Fighter by Christina Aguilera

There may be some speculation about why this song is on here when it comes to the lyrics outside of the chorus, but that’s precisely why. We’ve all had that one person who has taught us something that made us fight that much harder.

After all of the stealing and cheating you probably think that I hold resentment for you

But uh uh, oh no, you’re wrong

‘Cause if it wasn’t for all that you tried to do, I wouldn’t know

Just how capable I am to pull through

So I wanna say thank you

‘Cause it

Makes me that much stronger

Makes me work a little bit harder

It makes me that much wiser

So thanks for making me a fighter

7. So What – Pink

Her fierceness did it again! This is the song you listen to when you shout at the top your lungs and fist pump. Feeling angry? Unleash to Pink’s roaring SO WHAT.

So, so what?

I’m still a rock star

I got my rock moves

And I don’t need you

8. Firework – Katy Perry

Katy Perry isn’t usually what I think of when I think of girl power or feminine strength. She’s ultra pop-ish and it’s not usually my style, but I have to hand it to her with this one. It’s super uplifting. Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m full of color and love that she wants me to let it all burst out. I’ll let it out for you, Katy.

Baby you’re a firework

Come on let your colors burst

9. I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor

Yes, we had to go there. Forget all of the modern songs listed above. Your girl power playlist would be nothing without Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 hit. 40 Years later and we’re still straining our voices trying to keep up with the fierceness that she exudes in this song.

Weren’t you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye

Do you think I’d crumble

Did you think I’d lay down and die?2

Oh no, not I, I will survive

Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I’ll stay alive

10. Respect – Aretha Franklin

Did you expect to see Gloria Gaynor and not see the queen herself, Ms. Aretha Franklin? Oh no, she is on the girl power playlist. Every female on earth should be required to know this song. I’m going to give you what you need, but you better give me my respect – honey.

What you need

Do you know I got it

All I’m askin’

Is for a little respect when you get home (just a little bit)

Hey baby (just a little bit) when you get home
